THE BEST OF MIDDLE EAST NEWS DESIGN
This competition aims to promote creative excellence and innovation in news design in the Middle Eastern region. The main idea is to share with everyone the best of our production in the industry last year. Selected by a jury of leading design professionals, the winners were selected for outstanding work.
BEST OF NEWS DESIGN
The competition invites entries from all magazines and general circulation newspapers — daily or nondaily, broadsheet or tabloid, traditional or alternative — published anywhere in the world, as well as syndicates and cooperatives providing material used in newspapers.
Each annual design competition covers one calendar year. Entry deadlines are in January of the following year, with judging in February. Winners are announced as soon as they are verified. The competition typically offers 19 categories, each with a number of subcategories. All newspaper entrants become eligible for the “World’s Best-Designed™ Newspaper” category. Competition judges may issue Awards of Excellence, Silver Medals, Gold Medals, Judges’ Special Recognitions and Best of Show honors. All winners receive certificates, and the World’s Best-Designed™ Newspapers receive trophies.
THE BEST OF MULTIMEDIA DESIGN
SND honors excellent multimedia journalism with The Best of Multimedia Design Competition. This competition, formerly known as the SND.ies, rewards skill, innovation and high-quality visual journalism in Web and other new-media design with quarterly and annual prizes.
The competition year begins July 1 and ends June 30. Projects may be entered quarterly for prizes. Quarterly winners advance to the annual competition. Fees are $15 per entry for students, $20 per entry for SND members and $25 per entry for nonmembers. Fees must be paid in U.S. dollars.
All entries must be submitted online using the official entry page. Each entry requires a separate form.The entry deadlines for each quarterly competition are:
• Projects launched July 1-Sept. 30, deadline Oct. 7, winners announced Dec. 1
• Projects launched Oct. 1-Dec. 31, deadline Jan. 7, winners announced March 1
• Projects launched Jan. 1-March 31, deadline April 7, winners announced June 1
•Projects launched April 1-June 30, Deadline July 7, winners announced Sept. 1.

All submissions entered during the competition year become eligible for annual awards. These are Awards of Excellence and Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
Quarterly winners are announced throughout the year. Annual winners are announced at the SND Annual Workshop and Exhibition Awards Dinner in the fall.

SND/E sponsors an annual, international competition for print and online information graphics, Malofiej. The competition is named for Argentinian infographer Alejandro Malofiej, who died in 1987.
The Malofiej competition has more than a dozen categories and attracts entries from around the world. Each competition covers one calendar year. Judging takes place in the spring at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain. Winners receive Bronze, Silver and Gold medals, and winning entries are published in an annual book, “Malofiej.”

SNDScandinavia sponsors an annual Nordic “Best of Newspaper Pages” competition with more than a dozen categories. The competition is open to newspapers in Scandinavia.
The competition covers each calendar year, with entry deadlines the following January. Winners, who receive Awards of Excellence and Bronze, Silver and Gold Medals, are announced in the spring at the annual SNDS conference.
Beginning in 2005, SNDS also coordinates a European Front Page Competition, open to newspapers in Europe.
Winners of both competitions are published in an annual book, “Arets Avisside I Norden.”
